Bosnia to donate ammunition to Iraq to help fight IS

SARAJEVO, Bosnia-Herzegovina — Bosnia's defense ministry says the country will donate small arms ammunition to Iraq to help the fight against Islamic State militants.

The ministry said Tuesday the donation of about 500 tons of ammunition was approved after Bosnia was urged by the U.S. to join the international coalition fighting IS.

The ammunition is part of Bosnia's huge military stockpiles remaining from the country's 1992-95 war.

Two decades since the end of the war, Bosnia has surplus military stockpiles of around 16,000 tons of ammunition and 40,000 pieces of weapons of all types. The country aims to get rid of the stockpiles by 2020.
