Blue Force Gear has been talking about their latest offering for a little while, but the Helium Whisper series is finally coming online for purchase. The basis of Helium Whisper is pretty straight forward, and just what the name implies. It is all about how light weight a design can become. A lighter weight offering for those times when ounces make a difference is a great concept, but durability plays a close second in the larger scheme of things. Thankfully, BFG sent us several samples right before SHOT Show, and we had a chance to play around with them.
Durability of the Helium Whisper materials does not seem to be a concern based on our initial testing. We pulled, twisted, and manhandled the straps in an effort to tear or snap them, but it was all to no avail. We are throwing the Helium Whisper pouches and Light Weight Armor Carrier into our long term test review to see how they do for the long haul. It seems like a slick setup, but we will beat on it for awhile, loan it out, and get a variety of thoughts before we report back on it.
Lastly, for people who wonder and worry about the actual attachment method, the Helium Whisper materials are laser cut from a pliable laminate. A one piece construction plus the velcro (hook and loop) attachments, in addition to the actual pouch mean there are less overall pieces. Less pieces means lighter weight, and less to go wrong.
