I know when I got out of the military and into police work, I had so little money it was scary.  Thankfully my Reserve unit put me on orders with my old unit until I was picked up by my agency.  This same scenario repeats itself over and over, and I know a few hundred cops in my department who now wear the blue uniform after wearing green first.  Daniel Defense has implemented a program to make your first (or fifth) duty rifle a little easier if you are a cop.  Sure there are terms, conditions and interest, but no matter how you are looking at things you are still borrowing money.

Lastly, take some quick advice if you are looking at going into LE work right now: The market is saturated and cops are getting laid off everywhere due to cut backs.  Don't hang your hopes on an LE recruiter or a cop who tells you that you should take the test.  Expect LE testing to take 6- to 12-plus months in many places and to fill out reams of paperwork.  The medical typically isn't as good as it is in the military and cop retirements have been chopped in many states as well.  Hundreds of guys/ gals are going to compete for each opening, so your veterans preference is going to make a big difference (in most departments) for your overall score.  Think hard before you get out and stay safe, regardless of what uniform you wear.
