In order for the new Oakley SI Ballistic Crosshair to meet the MIL PRF 31013 ballistic impact requirement, Oakley built a frame using lightweight "hi modulus C-5 alloys" and patented lens geometries. In testing, the glasses are hit with a 0.15 caliber, 5.85 grain, T37 shaped projectile at approximately 640-660 feet per second. To pass, the eyewear must remain intact throughout the test without experiencing any dislodged components or lens fracturing.
"When we began the process of engineering the SI Ballistic Crosshair, we knew the user wanted similar protection to what they get with Oakley's SI Ballistic M Frame 3.0, but not to look like they were getting ready to kick down a door. The Ballistic Crosshair is the perfect blend of art meets attitude," said Drew Wallace, Oakley SI Product Manager.
The Ballistic Crosshair is available in matte black or gunmetal grey on OakleySI.com. Some specs:
Meet or exceed impact and optical requirements per ANSI Z87.1 2003/2010
