HONOLULU — Two men were killed when a 10,000-pound buoy fell from a crane onto contractors in Pearl Harbor.

Honolulu Fire Department spokesman Capt. David Jenkins says the men were on a barge that was servicing the Navy's fleet of inactive ships at the time of Wednesday's incident.

Two others suffered minor injuries.

The buoy was 12-to-15-feet in diameter. It fell about 60 feet.

Jenkins says the firefighters received a 911 call at 10:19 a.m. and arrived at the scene six minutes later. The Healy Tibbitts Builders contractors were still on the barge so firefighters didn't reach them until 10:39 a.m.

Healy Tibbitts President Rick Heltzel says his thoughts and prayers are with men's families. He says the company is working with the Navy and other agencies to investigate the incident.
