CASPER, Wyo. — Five Casper military veterans are seeking damages related to their service in Iraq.

They filed a federal lawsuit Friday contending they were exposed to toxic fumes when a Houston-based corporation improperly burned waste during the war in Iraq.

The Casper Star-Tribune reports that the suit was filed against KBR Inc. in the U.S. District Court of Wyoming.

The suit states KBR was hired to handle waste disposal for American operations in Iraq but failed to take necessary safety precautions when incinerating waste that included chemicals, in burn pits.

It says the soldiers were exposed to health-damaging toxins.

The Star-Tribune says a phone call to KBR's headquarters in Texas was not returned Friday.

The lawsuit requests damages for medical expenses, pain and suffering and emotional distress.
