According to his family on Wednesday, John Glenn, the first American to orbit the Earth has been hospitalized in his home state of Ohio with an unexplained condition. The 95-year-old former Marine suffered a stroke two years ago, but as of now it is not clear what caused him to be taken to the James Cancer Hospital at Ohio State. Besides serving a U.S. senator for four terms and being a decorated combat pilot in World War II and the Korean War, Glenn will always be known for his 1962 trip in a Friendship space capsule that circled Earth. He then returned to space on the shuttle Discovery, becoming the oldest person to make such a voyage at the age of 77.
