An F/A-18 Hornet from the East Coast Super Hornet Demonstration Team assigned to Strike Fighter Squadron 106 takes off at the 2011 Naval Air Station Oceana Air Show. This is the 53rd anniversary of the air show, which is a celebration of the Centennial of Naval Aviation with both military and civilian performers in vintage and modern aircraft.

NORFOLK, Va. — An official at Norfolk International Airport says two Navy fighter jets on a training mission made successful emergency landings after running low on fuel.

Airport deputy executive director Robert Bowen says the F/A-18 pilots landed Wednesday at Norfolk International Airport after determining that the runways at two nearby bases weren’t available because of other operations.

Bowen tells The Virginian-Pilot hat the jets refueled and returned to Oceana Naval Air Station in Virginia Beach about two hours later.
