Rescue crews from the Guam Fire Department, the U.S. Coast Guard and Andersen Air Force Security Forces spent yesterday searching for a missing airman near Tarague Beach in Yigo.
It’s uncertain what the airman was doing in the area.
Lt. Edward Artero, GFD spokesman, said the man, 23, had reportedly been missing since about 4:45 yesterday morning.
He said Andersen Air Force Security Forces reported the missing person to the U.S. Coast Guard who, in turn, sought assistance from the local fire department.
Authorities still are trying to piece together the details of the missing man and what he was doing in the area.
A statement from the U.S. Coast Guard said the man “possibly entered the water” near Tarague Beach, but provides no other details about what he was doing.
The search effort included the U.S. Navy Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 25, Guam Fire Rescue, the Guam Police Department Marine Unit and the U.S. Coast Guard.
No updates on the search were available yesterday afternoon.
