WASHINGTON — The Defense Department accidentally retweeted a Twitter post calling for President Trump to resign from office.

“An authorized operator of the Department of Defense’s official Twitter site erroneously retweeted content that would not be endorsed by the Department of Defense,” Army Col. Robert Manning said in a statement to reporters. “The operator caught this error and immediately deleted it.”

Moore, the Republican nominee in Alabama for a U.S. Senate seat, is currently embroiled in a sex scandal involving allegations of sexual harassment and sexual assault by several women, including one woman, Leigh Corfman, who was 14 at the time of the alleged incident. The story was first reported by the Washington Post.

Franken, a Democratic Senator from Minnesota, was accused Thursday by Leeann Tweeden, a radio news anchor with KABC in Los Angeles, of forcibly kissing and groping her nearly ten years ago. The incident occurred while the two were overseas entertaining troops at a USO event.

During the 2016 presidential campaign, then-candidate Trump was accused by several women of sexual assault and sexual harassment. He called the allegations “totally and absolutely false.”
