A sailor has been charged with animal cruelty after allegedly beating two of his dogs so badly they had to be euthanized, reports 10 On Your Side.

Aviation Electronics Technician 2nd Class Michael A. Ott, 29, was arrested Aug. 22 and charged with two counts of animal cruelty.

One of the injured dogs was brought to Acredale Animal Hospital in Virginia Beach over the weekend, prompting veterinarians to contact animal control. When officers arrived at Ott’s home on, they found blood on the walls, doors and inside the closets, according to court documents obtained by 10 On Your Side.

Ott is accused of beating a Yorkie named Gizmo and an Alaskan Malamute named Ghost about a week apart. Both dogs suffered severe trauma and had to be euthanized due to the extent of their injuries.

According to officers, there in an ongoing investigation into the abuse of a third dog, a Yorkie named Benji, who is currently recovering in Virginia Beach. Charges are pending in this case.

Ott enlisted in the Navy in June 2012 and reported to his current station at Naval Medical Center-Portsmouth in April of this year, according to information released by the Navy.
