To help the U.S. better compete with China, a group of former national security officials is asking lawmakers to exempt immigrants with advanced science, technology, engineering and math degrees from green card caps.
The move follows complaints this summer that camo-clad law enforcement officers, called in to quell protests across the nation, have confused the public about the role the military is playing domestically.
The technology also sets the stage for the future when cardholders will be able to go online and get their ID card through the proper vetting process, without going to an ID office.
