Eugene Bullard: The Black Swallow of Death

Before the United States entered World War I, many Americans volunteered to fight alongside the Triple Entente — an alliance formed by Russia, France and the United Kingdom. One such group of volunteers took to the skies above France and flew in what was called the Lafayette Flying Corps. Among these aviators was the very first African-American military aviator: Eugene Bullard, known as the Black Swallow of Death. (DoD video)
