This podcast from Military Times examines the alarming rate of military and veterans suicide, offering new insights based on research and effective clinical and peer support practices in suicide prevention. Hosted by Duane France, a retired Army combat veteran, author and mental health counselor, and Shauna Springer, a psychologist, author and nationally recognized expert on initiatives to benefit the military community, the podcast aims to move beyond awareness to identify actionable strategies that can impact the rising suicide rate among service members, veterans, and their families.
Kim Donohue has worked for the Nevada Department fo Veteran Services as the suicide and homelessness prevention program manager and organizational integrator since January 2018. Donohue has been actively participating in the SAMHSA Mayor’s Challenge Teams, which is a suicide prevention initiative that fights against suicide among service members, veterans, and their families since the inauguration in January 2018. In December of 2018, Gov. Steve Sisolak designated Donohue to lead the Governors Challenge team and continue efforts towards preventing suicide on a state-wide level.
Prior to working for NDVS, she taught early childhood education. Donohue spent over five years living in Ireland and Great Britain, establishing European offices in England and the Middle East for an International Engineering Software Company.
