There may be no summit, but there will always be the challenge coin.

The White House Communications Agency, as it has done for previous presidential trips, minted a limited number of trip challenge coins for the 2018 President Donald Trump-North Korean Leader Kim Jong-Un summit.

Trump cancelled the upcoming summit Thursday morning in a personally signed letter to the North Korean regime. The summit was set for June 12 in Singapore.

According to news reports, Trump took issue with North Korean criticism of Vice President Mike Pence and National Security Adviser John Bolton. A recent military exercise also further agitated the North Korean leader.

The summit started to unravel after after Bolton suggested that North Korea’s de-nuclearization could follow “the Libya model” ― something Kim took issue with because the Libya model had led to the ultimate execution of then-Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi.

“This missed opportunity is truly a sad moment in history,” Trump wrote.
