It’s been 243 years since the last of the blackpowder smoke cleared in America’s war for independence from the British empire, but it’s still important to remember — and tip a glass to — those courageous men and women who fired the shots heard ‘round the world.

From Lexington and Concord, to Princeton, Charleston and Yorktown the fledgling nation’s patriots faced daunting odds against the world’s greatest military power.

But luck, good leadership and exceptional marksmanship all helped to eventually defeat the British and send them back to their island for good (well, there was that whole War of 1812 business, but we don’t like to talk about that).

So enjoy today’s Military Maxim and make sure to wait until you see the whites of their eyes in everything you do!
