Captain America-clad Marine vet squares off at Unite the Right 2 rally in Washington

Protestors with the Unite the Right 2 rally who descended onto the nation’s capital Sunday on the anniversary of the deadly Charlottesville, Virginia, rally found themselves far outnumbered by counter-protestors.

One of those counter-protesters was Marine veteran Patrick Rincon, who decided to confront the white nationalists — while dressed as Captain America.

“This is America, and nobody should ever feel complacent about countering fascists,” Rincon told Marine Corps Times.

The towering Marine vet said he decided on the Captain America costume because it is a powerful symbol.

The popular Marvel superhero debuted in 1941 near the outset of America’s entrance into World War II. One of its most iconic comics features Captain America knocking out Adolf Hitler.

The Unite the Right Rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, on Aug. 12, 2017, turned deadly when a neo-Nazi plowed his car into a group of counter-protestors, killing a young woman, Heather Heyer.

One Marine who participated in the rally, now-former Lance Cpl. Vasillios G. Pistolis, was booted from the Marine Corps in July for alleged ties to Atomwaffen Division, a violent neo-Nazi group.

When counter-protesting at the rally this year, Rincon said he carried the South Korean flag to show multiculturism and international solidarity.

The former Marine served over five years in the Corps as a Russian linguist from 2004–2010.
