40 years after the introduction of the HKMP5 SD, Heckler & Koch will release the new MR556A1-SD and MR762A1-SD. The new SD design incorporates technology from American suppressor manufacturer Operators Suppressor Systems into the combat proven HK416/HK417 platforms. The over-the-barrel, reflex design of the OSS suppressor minimizes the overall length of the rifle while maximizing sound suppression and operational configurability.

The updated platform also includes HK's new Modular Rail System (MRS) in 14" or 9" which looks like a KeyMod compatible handguard with integrated QD sling swivel flush cups

The OSS suppressor system also improves the HK platform by adding caliber and configuration modularity, individual suppressor component sustainability, greater than 90% reduction in blowback and bolt velocity compared to competing suppressor systems. The OSS system comprises a back pressure regulator (BPR) and a sound reduction module (SRM). The rifle is shot 'unsuppressed' with the BPR installed. This reduces flash and noise noticeably, but the addition of the SRM will reduce the muzzle noise to 139db at the shooters ear.

It's interesting that these mods are being applied to the civilian version of these rifles. Perhaps these cans find their way onto 14.5" guns to become the HK416/HK417A6-SD at some point. There's no doubt these rifles will be expensive. But, we won't have a price until HK officially releases the rifles at SHOT Show next week in Las Vegas.
