U.S. troops pulling out of Somalia aren’t leaving the continent, or even the region, the general who leads U.S. Africa Command said in a statement this weekend.
No country has been involved in Somalia's future as much as the United States. The Trump administration is contemplating the withdrawal of the several hundred U.S. military troops from the nation, but some experts say it would come at the worst possible time.
The merger comes on the heels of some combat incidents at outposts on the Horn of Africa, including a May 9 attack on U.S. soldiers assigned to a coordination cell in Mogadishu, Somalia.
“Special Forces is very good at training tactical-type units; They’re very good at accompanying tactical-type units," McConville said. “But SFABs build a professional military force, which is different."
