Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said Tuesday that Guard members will be tasked with supporting federal law enforcement partners.
Trump did not say how many troops would be sent to New Orleans or exactly when they would arrive.
The Washington D.C. National Guard, deployed to the nation’s capital since August, will remain on orders at least through the end of February.
Trump’s latest comments came a day after he suggested that the National Guard might soon be deployed to Chicago and Baltimore.
