20 months ago The U.S. government faces an uphill challenge returning the fugitive back to American soil. Leonard Glenn Francis disappeared weeks before he was set to be sentenced for one of the largest bribery scandals in the nation’s military history. Leonard Glenn Francis, known as “Fat Leonard,” pleaded guilty in 2015 to offering $500,000 in bribes to Navy officers. An Army spokeswoman says an inquiry has been called for retired Lt. Gen. Gary Volesky, but provides no details. The jury deadlocked and reached no verdict on charges against a fifth defendant, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. The group wants Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin to issue new directives to ensure female troops seeking abortions can get around looming state bans on the procedure. AWACS jets have been in use at Tinker since the 1970s, but are getting harder to maintain and more vulnerable in combat. President Joe Biden announced $800 million in additional aid for Ukraine, but some lawmakers want even more.
