FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Deputies have charged an Army soldier from Cumberland County with second-degree murder in the slaying of his wife.

Sheriff's Sgt. Sean Swain tells local media outlets that 37-year-old Jesus Guillermo Mora of the Linden area north of Fayetteville was charged Saturday.

Authorities say Mora called 911 early Saturday asking for help, but would not say why. Swain says that when deputies arrived, they found Mary Mora dead in the couple's house.

Authorities say she died sometime between 11 p.m. Friday and about 1:30 a.m. Saturday. Mora was charged after deputies interviewed family friends.

He is being held in jail without bond. It was not immediately known if he had an attorney.
