A former police sergeant from Whitman, Massachusetts, pleaded guilty on multiple accounts, including stealing funds from the accounts of disabled veterans while acting as their appointed fiduciary.

According to The Patriot Ledger, Glenn Pearson, 61, was dismissed from the Whitman Police Department in 2001 for multiple breaches of the police codes of conduct, including improper arrest procedures, sexual harassment, falsifying payrolls, inappropriate conduct, untruthfulness, and insubordination.

From 2007 to 2012, Pearson was a Department of Veterans Affairs fiduciary for eight disabled veterans and managed funds on their behalf. It was during this time, The Patriot Ledger reports, that Pearson used his position to embezzle over $250,000 of the benefit money awarded to the veterans by the VA.

Then, from 2012 until 2015, Pearson operated a tax preparation business called FTS Tax Services where he prepared false tax returns for clients in return for a fee. Eventually, his clients were audited by the IRS, during which Pearson provided false statements to the IRS.

He faces a maximum sentencing of 20 years for wire fraud, three years for trying to interfere with the administration of internal revenue laws, three years for making and providing false tax returns, and five years for the misappropriation of funds. He admitted to causing over $1.5 million in tax loss, according to a statement The Patriot Ledger received. He is scheduled to be sentenced on Sept. 19.

As part of the plea deal, he has agreed to make restitution to the veterans he stole from, the VA and the IRS.
