Intense NFL action dominated the American sports landscape Sunday, but it’s what happened before the games that garnered the most headlines.

Responding to President Donald Trump’s “son of a bitch” comments made Friday in reference to NFL players who kneel during the anthem to protest police brutality, hundreds of players and front office personnel either took a knee or linked arms during the singing of the anthem.
