With SHOT Show now in the rearview mirror, I wanted to get back to some unfinished business I meant to report last week.

Not only is Heckler & Hoch working on a short-barrelled version of the HK416 rifle, they're finally ready to roll out the MRR556A1, designed to be a commercial variant of the weapon without the ability to fire fully automatic.

Orders already are in for the weapon, which should reach the market soon, company officials said. Like its cousin, it operates with a gas-pistol, firing 5.56mm ammunition. It weighs nine pounds with an empty magazine, 16.5-inch barrel and adjustable buttstock with six positions.

The MSRP is $2,995.
