Barnes Bullets, known for its high performance projectiles, is expanding its line of loaded ammunition with the announcement of four new TAC-XPD cartridges. The new defensive carry rounds will use the TAC-XP all copper, light weight, expanding bullet loaded in 380 Auto , 9mm, 40 S&W cal. and 45 Auto.
Using all copper, instead of copper-jacketed lead, reduces recoil while keeping terminal performance on par with a heavier lead bullet. Barnes says they are using a powder load that will reduce the TAC-XPDs muzzle flash, making the round ideal for low-light self defense.
A 115 gr 9mm seems too good to be true, but if Barnes is making it then I will wager it works. The +P should cycle any slide, though I wonder how well it will run something like a G17 with a red dot sight. MRDS are becoming more popular, though I haven't heard of any line unit (military or police) using them, I have heard of special tactics units adopting them. I can't wait to see the gelatin blocks.
The new rounds will be available next year in 20-round boxes in the following configurations:
- 380 Auto 80 grain TAC-XP
- 9mm Luger 115 grain TAC-XP +P
- 40 S&W 140 grain TAC-XP
- 45 Auto 185 grain TAC-XP +P
