China said its aircraft carrier Shandong conducted live fire exercises days after the U.S. carrier entered the waters. The ship returned home from an 11-month deployment in February 2021. Navy officials said the bacteria wasn't the cause of the ship's water turning stinky and cloudy last month. Something fouled up the carrier Abraham Lincoln's potable water supplies last month, weeks after jet fuel contaminated the carrier Nimitz's water system. The contaminated water found aboard the ship possibly sickened more than 10 sailors. The Navy said on Tuesday there were no confirmed cases of illness due to the jet fuel leak. Navy officials confirmed Tuesday that Nimitz has been hooked up to the San Diego water system since Sept. 17. Fuel was discovered in the water Friday, and officials said the water system was flushed and back online by Monday. This is the Navy's the most recent initiative to fill sea billets. The aircraft carrier was one day into sea trials when the propulsion plant issue was discovered. Load More
