A provision included in a draft of the annual defense authorization bill would look into a new system for troops to cast their votes online instead of through mailed-in paper ballots.
Military officials say remote medical appointments and expanded online support services will only work if all troops have reliable access to the internet.
The military hopes to “assess, evaluate and prevent unauthorized use of DoD IP address space,” said a statement issued by the chief of the Pentagon’s Defense Digital Service.
