The Pentagon acknowledged an American MQ-9 Reaper drone went down recently in the Red Sea amid an ongoing battle with Houthi militants in the region.
The Crew-9 mission is part of NASA’s Commercial Crew Program, designed to shuttle workers to and from the International Space Station.
Officials have no plans to try and recoup the money, noting that no laws appear to have been violated by the doubled stipend payments.
"I found a spot in the clouds [where] I could see the ground, and then we basically dove," Maj. Mark Ross said of the evacuation.
