This yoga ball has shown up in several of columnist Bob Thomas' Military Muscle workouts, but this it the first time he's dedicated an entire workout to it. Bob writes:

Yoga ball, strength ball, physio ball, Swiss ball — dynamic stabilizing load, or DSL, ball when it's weighted — the stability ball (my name of choice) allows a host of unique and imaginative exercises.

Used across the spectrum of rehab, balance, strength, sport conditioning, and most importantly, age groups, it's one of the most versatile pieces of fitness equipment.

It allows hundreds of variations on traditional exercises, such as dumbbell presses with your upper back on the forward part of the ball, simulating incline, or on the very top of the ball with hips raised, simulating a flat bench.

The stability ball should be on everyone's fitness list.

This week's demo model -- above -- is Marine Corps Capt. Mosi Smith, 30, an instructor at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. He's also a Badwater finisher.

Sidebar: That big red yoga ball belongs to OFFduty; we bought it for the studio when we added images to Military Muscle (does anyone remember it pre-PT365?) But it has spent exactly zero hours down in our photo studio.

Instead, it rolls around the office moving from reporter to editor and back -- it's been used for things such as chairs, weapons or giant bowling balls. No less than five people -- myself included -- have at one time ditched their horrible office chairs in favor of the big red ball.  We get some weird looks, but mostly people are just jealous.

Have you done anything to make your work life less sedentary?
