Ten thousand is a nice round number, and for certain weapon components, it can be a little too much. When Wilson Combat contacted us early this year with their new single stage Tactical Trigger Unit (TTU), we were more than a little interested, especially when you figure that we've had other upper-end triggers turn to junk with really low round counts. How did the Wilson Combat TTU hold up after six months and 10,000 drops of the hammer? Click the picture and see.

I'm more than willing to admit that I started this review with the intent of running this trigger into the ground. I've had some poor experiences with "match" triggers in the M16/ AR15 family. To give an example that still burns in my mind, I picked up a new "match" trigger that was pretty affordable (cheap), and thought I would use it on a DMR-style build that I had completed. The trigger felt great for the first few drops of the hammer, but within the first magazine, it turned into a sloppy gritty extended single-stage pull. The dealer made things right and showed me a box of those triggers that were going back to the manufacturer. The light came on pretty quickly: All precision triggers are not created equal, and some shouldn't be created at all.

Wilson Combat is a name well-known for its 1911 pistols, and anyone who has ever fired one knows that they have a trigger pull that leaves many pistols to shame. However, the world of the 1911 is very different than that of the modern battle rifle. I mentioned earlier that I had plans to run this trigger into the ground, and I went to work on it nice and fast.

Removal of the trigger assembly is straight forward, and while there are a few uncaptured pieces as you pull the old trigger and hammer out, its' nothing that is all that difficult. Dropping the Wilson Combat TTU into the lower receiver is as easy as it comes. The Wilson Combat TTU is a complete trigger pack, and the only thing you need to do is line up the holes, and push the hammer and trigger pin into place.

I started testing the trigger by installing it, then dry firing the TTU 1,500 times. The Wilson Combat TTU has a half cock notch to prevent the weapon from firing if the trigger shears or breaks, but I never found the trigger to need this feature in our testing. From the initial dry fire drills, the trigger never changed its feel. From the first pull of the trigger, it had a crisp clean break, and good reset. In live fire drills, the TTU worked well, and in both accuracy drills and shooting for speed, the trigger felt good to everyone who used it. While there were a few people who had never worked with a enhanced trigger, they had no trouble getting used it. The comment was made from multiple shooters that the trigger seemed to give them better and faster hits, and while I have no reason to doubt them, I was unable to run back to back drills to verify anything regarding hits or times.

At 2,600 rounds, I spent a good deal of time working the trigger reset with the lower receiver removed from the upper. I wanted to see if the trigger would slip, or if I could get it to drop to its half cock position. It never happened.

Eventually, this lower receiver was loaned out to a few LE and MIL shooters, and the exact round count became rather hazy. To work around this, I conducted a massive amount of dry fire work with the lower to make sure the total trigger actuations was nice and high. I finally decided that the review was done once we reached the 10,000 mark. With 10,000 or more drops of the hammer, everyone involved in this testing felt that the Wilson Combat TTU was a highly reliable trigger.

For any trigger, I take durability first and feel second. This trigger works well in both categories, and I can recommend this trigger pack to anyone who is looking for a crisp, clean, single-stage trigger that will last.
